Have a Plan Work on your habits

The most important thing is to keep the most important things the most important things

What are your priorities this month, this week, today ?

Are your priorities clear in your mind ? And do you make time for these priorities ? The most important thing is to keep the most important things the most important things. The first thing that one of my coaches did when we started to work together was to look at my agenda. He looked at it and then made a list of all the meetings and activities I had. He compared them with my goals and my plans to achieve my goals. There was a clear gap !!!! Guess what : I was being swallowed by the “noise”, by the coworkers, the customers, the boss….who were screaming the most, by the urgent matter which was urgent but really not important,….etc.

It was all DISTRACTIONS !!!

I was letting outside noise having power on me. But true freedom is understanding that we have a choice in who and what we allow to have power over us. I was not becoming who I wanted to become because I let others and other things than my goals taking power over my own schedule ! That sounds crazy but look at your agenda now. Or even look at what you have done yesterday. And compare the activities you performed with your goals. How much of the 24 hours of your day have you spent to truly support your goals ?

So it sounds crazy and a lot of us have fallen into this trap. Other great examples are emails, social media, phone calls,…They can all suck your day without you even realizing it. And then you wake up at the end of the month realizing you haven’t made any progress towards your goals.

Our society expects immediate answers. Our society fights for our attention. Our society works against our goals ! If you want to be free, you have to make yourself free from what the society is telling you what to pay attention to by deciding yourself what you are going to focus on.

Do you know the 5/5 rule ?

The 5/5 rule is : if it won’t matter to you in 5 years, then you shouldn’t spend more than 5 minutes worrying about it. I love that rule. Such an inspirational rule ! For example, focusing your energy all day long about an email a coworker has sent you and that upsets you is more likely to be something you will forget in 2 months even more in 5 years. So you shouldn’t spend more than 5 minutes of your valuable time, valuable energy, valuable spirit on this matter.

The most important thing is to keep the most important things the most important things.
